The idea for Sunbird took root in college while working at a farmer’s market in Athens, GA. The connections I made during that time showed me the real value of a local food economy. Building a business based in creativity and sustainability has been a longtime dream of mine.
With a background in horticulture and sustainable food production I was amazed by the abundance of old orchards in the Animas Valley and was immediately inspired to put my prior shrub making experience to use. By gleaning fruit from trees that might otherwise go to waste, this ancient process is an excellent way to preserve the brilliant flavors of the valley.
Being connected to the land and each season's harvest in a tangible way has been incredibly rewarding. I am thrilled to be a part of the growing community of small food producers in the area and to have this dream come to fruition!
